Overnight Orange French Toast

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 25 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 4 eggs (or egg beaters)
  • 2/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 loaf french bread or 1 loaf italian bread
  • 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup pecan halves or 1/2 cup any type nuts, chopped

Recipe

  • 1 beat eggs with a wire whisk.
  • 2 beat in orange juice, milk, sugar, vanilla and nutmeg.
  • 3 cut french bread diagonally into 1 inch slices.
  • 4 place slices into a 9x13 dish (there is often enough bread and batter left to use an additional small dish).
  • 5 pour 1/2 the egg mixture over the bread.
  • 6 turn the bread and coat with the remaining egg mixture.
  • 7 cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  • 8 when ready to serve, preheat oven to 375.
  • 9 pour melted butter into a jellyroll pan.
  • 10 arrange bread in a single layer.
  • 11 top with nuts.
  • 12 bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until french toast is brown and puffy.
  • 13 serves about 6.
