Haitian French Toast

Total Time: 25 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 day old french baguette
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 dash ground nutmeg (i use fresh)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting)

Recipe

  • 1 cut off the ends of the baguette a reserve for another use. cut the remainder in 1/2 inch slices. let them stand for at least 4 hours or overnight to dry.
  • 2 in a 9x13 pan combine the orange juice, heavy cream, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar.
  • 3 place the bread slices in the pan, turning the slices until the liquid is absorbed.
  • 4 in a large skillet, melt butter over medium to medium high heat. add bread slices and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 5 minutes. dust heavily with powdered sugar to serve.
  • 5 i always include maple or fruit syrup on the table.
  • 6 heavenly way to start the day!
  • 7 prep time doesn't include the bread drying step.
