Easy Overnight French Toast Casserole

Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 50 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 8 -10 slices french bread, 1-inch thick
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 6 large eggs
  • 4 cups half-and-half cream
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar (optional)
  • warm maple syrup (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 melt butter in a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking dish.
  • 2 arrange the bread slices in the dish, turning to coat them in the melted butter.
  • 3 in a large bowl beat the eggs and add the half and half, vanilla, baking powder, nutmeg and the cinnamon; mix well.
  • 4 pour the egg mixture over the bread in the baking dish.
  • 5 cover and chill for 8 hours or overnight.
  • 6 remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking.
  • 7 bake uncovered in a preheated 350 degree f oven for 45-55 minutes.
  • 8 remove from oven and let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
  • 9 dust with confectioner's sugar before serving, and offer maple syrup on the side, if desired.
  • 10 some good sides are breakfast sausage links, fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh berries or melon chunks.
