Easy Overnight French Toast Casserole

Ingredients

- 8 -10 slices french bread, 1-inch thick
- 1/2 cup butter
- 6 large eggs
- 4 cups half-and-half cream
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar (optional)
- warm maple syrup (optional)
Recipe
- 1 melt butter in a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking dish.
- 2 arrange the bread slices in the dish, turning to coat them in the melted butter.
- 3 in a large bowl beat the eggs and add the half and half, vanilla, baking powder, nutmeg and the cinnamon; mix well.
- 4 pour the egg mixture over the bread in the baking dish.
- 5 cover and chill for 8 hours or overnight.
- 6 remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking.
- 7 bake uncovered in a preheated 350 degree f oven for 45-55 minutes.
- 8 remove from oven and let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
- 9 dust with confectioner's sugar before serving, and offer maple syrup on the side, if desired.
- 10 some good sides are breakfast sausage links, fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh berries or melon chunks.
