Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup water, lukewarm
  • 6 cups flour

Recipe

  • 1 pour the boiling water over the quick oats, shortening, salt, molasses and 1/2 cup sugar.
  • 2 let stand until lukewarm.
  • 3 dissolve yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup lukewarm water and add to oat mixture. add flour and knead until firm.
  • 4 let stand until double in size. form into 2 loaves and let rise again until double in size. bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
