Gingerbread

Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon clove
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup molasses
- 3/4 cup boiling water
Recipe
- 1 combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices in a bowl mixing well to blend.
- 2 cream shortening, sugar and eggs thoroughly.
- 3 add molasses and mix well.
- 4 add dry ingredients to molasses mixture.
- 5 stir in boiling water; mix well.
- 6 pour batter into greased and floured 9-inch square pan.
- 7 bake at 350°f for 40-45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean.
