Old-fashioned Gingerbread

Total Time: 35 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup boiling water (add last)

Recipe

  • 1 mix all ingredients together, adding the water last.
  • 2 put into a 12-inch greased baking pan (or two 8-inch cake pans).
  • 3 bake at 375° for about 30 minutes or until it tests done to touch or with a toothpick.
