Old-fashioned Gingerbread

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 40 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup hot water
  • sweetened whipped cream

Recipe

  • 1 cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating at med. speed with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. add egg and molasses, mixing well.
  • 2 combine flour and next 5 ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beginning and ending with flour mixture. mix after each addition.
  • 3 pour batter into a lightly greases and floured 9 inch square pan. bake at 350f for 35 to 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted, comes out clean. serve with a scoop of whipped cream.
