Old-fashioned Gingerbread

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 cup hot water
- sweetened whipped cream
Recipe
- 1 cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating at med. speed with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. add egg and molasses, mixing well.
- 2 combine flour and next 5 ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beginning and ending with flour mixture. mix after each addition.
- 3 pour batter into a lightly greases and floured 9 inch square pan. bake at 350f for 35 to 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted, comes out clean. serve with a scoop of whipped cream.
