Poppy Seed Twists

Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 8 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
- poppy seed
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 425°f.
- 2 stir flour, baking powder and salt together.
- 3 cut in butter or margarine until mixture is crumbly.
- 4 add milk gradually, tossing with a fork, until mixture holds together and comes away from the side of the bowl.
- 5 turn out on a lightly floured board and knead for a few minutes (10-12 times).
- 6 break dough into 32 equal pieces and roll each piece into a round pencil-like strip about 6" long.
- 7 tie each strip in a loose knot and place on a greased baking sheet.
- 8 mix slightly beaten egg yolk and milk together.
- 9 brush the tops of the knots with the egg-milk mixture and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
- 10 bake about 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
