Poppy Seed Twists

Total Time: 35 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 8 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • poppy seed

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 425°f.
  • 2 stir flour, baking powder and salt together.
  • 3 cut in butter or margarine until mixture is crumbly.
  • 4 add milk gradually, tossing with a fork, until mixture holds together and comes away from the side of the bowl.
  • 5 turn out on a lightly floured board and knead for a few minutes (10-12 times).
  • 6 break dough into 32 equal pieces and roll each piece into a round pencil-like strip about 6" long.
  • 7 tie each strip in a loose knot and place on a greased baking sheet.
  • 8 mix slightly beaten egg yolk and milk together.
  • 9 brush the tops of the knots with the egg-milk mixture and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
  • 10 bake about 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
