Gingerbread Craft Dough / Ornaments

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup water

Recipe

  • 1 cream together shortening and sugar until light and fluffy; stir in molasses.
  • 2 sift dry ingredients together, then stir into the shortening mixture in 3 parts, alternating with 1/4 cup water each time.
  • 3 dough will be stiff.
  • 4 refrigerate overnight.
  • 5 the next day, preheat oven to 350 degrees f.
  • 6 cut the dough into 3 pieces and knead to warm slightly then roll out each piece about 1/4-inch thick.
  • 7 cut into desired shapes; use a straw to make a hole at the top if you're making an ornament.
  • 8 bake at 350 degrees f for 30 minutes.
  • 9 remove to cooling rack and let dry about 3 days.
  • 10 decorate as desired.
