Gingerbread Craft Dough / Ornaments

Ingredients

- 3 tablespoons shortening
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 cup water
Recipe
- 1 cream together shortening and sugar until light and fluffy; stir in molasses.
- 2 sift dry ingredients together, then stir into the shortening mixture in 3 parts, alternating with 1/4 cup water each time.
- 3 dough will be stiff.
- 4 refrigerate overnight.
- 5 the next day, preheat oven to 350 degrees f.
- 6 cut the dough into 3 pieces and knead to warm slightly then roll out each piece about 1/4-inch thick.
- 7 cut into desired shapes; use a straw to make a hole at the top if you're making an ornament.
- 8 bake at 350 degrees f for 30 minutes.
- 9 remove to cooling rack and let dry about 3 days.
- 10 decorate as desired.
